I can't say "NO"

I don't know what is wrong with me, but for some reason, I think the word no is not in my vocabulary (that is when asked to do or help with something). However if you asked my kids, all I do is say no, which is not true. Anyways, on my way to story time this afternoon with J and S I got a call from the school. My immediate thought was that something was wrong with one of the kids. I was wrong. It was the principal asking me if I would be willing to serve on the School Community Council. I of course said, "Sure", while thinking to myself why, oh why, just say no. But did I? I just couldn't. So, my plan to help at school here and there, has now switched to being on the council. I wonder how this will go.

I hear ya, saying no takes practice. I am a "pleaser" and it really takes some effort for me to say no.

I definitely have a hard time saying "no." Even when I know I should or that it may not necessarily be in my best interest. I just like to please and be involved.
ON the bright side... a lot of good can come out of this. You'll get first hand glances of every day school for your children and the things around them.

Well, you'll probably have fun on the counsil...or you'll be really frustrated.

My hubby thinks I can't say no to our 10 year old, so he told her she's not allowed to ask my permission anymore. he said "don't ask your mom, she doesn't know better." LOL.

Gets me off the hook!!

PS I have been trying to leave comments for weeks and Blooger has been a HUGE booger!!! But it seems things are fixed. I have been reading even though I seemed absent.

It's so hard at times. My problem is that I can't say "no" ... but I open my big mouth and VOLUNTEER. That's almost worse...

Hey! Thanks for visiting me in blogland.

As for saying no... I'm getting better, but it's still hard. Sometimes I think we think we need to save the world single-handedly...

Let me know when you figure it out!

I am mostly a lurker, but I enjoy reading you almost every day.
I used to be the exact same way until a dear dear friend of mine whom I really look up to gave me some wonderful tools to say no without feeling guilty:
1)"y'know, that doesn't work for me right now."
2)"Let me check with my calendar"
3)"Let me check with my husband"
(Both of those will give you time to think it over and decide if you really want to do whatever you're being asked)
4)"I need to focus on my family right now."
Occasionally, I still get roped into doing something I might not wanna do...but I am wayyyyyyy better than I used to.
Whatever you do, You DO NOT owe ANYONE an explaination.

OOPS! I should have included with the calendar and husband checking...to say that you'd check and call them back.
That way you have time to mull it all over.
