Have You Forgotten?

I can't believe that it's been 5 years since 9/11. So much has happened, but I will never forget that day. I was in my sons' room, who was 3 at the time, laying in bed with him just playing and enjoying the morning. My 2 year old daughter had just come in and my 4 month old was sleeping. I heard the phone ring and DH answered it and then called me from the other room and said, "You better get in here." I took my time coming in with the kids hanging all over me. He was in the living room with the t.v. on and had a very shocked looked on his face. It was my mom who had called to tell us to turn on the news. I saw a plane crash into a building and just stared. I asked what was going on. He couldn't even answer me. We just stood there in shock. How could this happen? Why did this happen? Who did this? And the questions just kept coming.
As the day went on I realized more and more the depth and devastation of this event. So many people lost loved ones. Everyone's lives would be forever changed by this. I remember at that very moment how grateful I was for the things that I have. I was so relieved that my family was safe, and yet I felt guilty for feeling that way because there were so many whose family members were taken away from them. It makes you count your blessings.
I am so grateful for the many brave men and women who are fighting for our freedom. And who are sacrificing their time and their lives for us. My brother-in-law is in Iraq for his 2nd year and I see the sacrifice that not only he is making but that his wife and children are making. This war effects people everywhere and in all aspects.
I remember DH wishing that he was in New York to volunteer. He talked about being there week after week and wanted to be there to help in any way he could. I hope that my boys will grow up and have a strong sense of loyalty for our country, and that if need be they will be willing to help.
The amount of damage done was unspeakable. I fear that the damage is not done, and that we have much more to face. I hope and pray that we will continue to have people who will stand up and fight for our country.
I remember. I have not forgotten.
Have You Forgotten?
I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet they remember
Just what they're fighting for

Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?
-Darryl Worley

We pray each and every day for the soldiers who are out fighting for our country and for our freedom. Let's be united in this effort to bring our troops home! Let us never forget what happened that tragic day when so many lost their lives.
