Book #1

I finished my first book for the Southern Reading Challenge. "Gap Creek" by Robert Morgan was a different type of book for me. At first I thought it was SO slow, but it got better towards the end. The book was set in South Carolina and follows the marriage of a young couple struggling to make ends meet while adjusting to married life. It was kind of a depressing book, but I like how it showed that even though life isn't always easy, you can make it through most things. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it. Hopefully #2 will be better.

I liked this book too (didn't LOVE it, but definitely liked it). I really liked the author and the description made the whole scene so easy to visualize.
Definitely not a pick me up book though (meaning happy book).

Small world--I found your link through the Southern Reading Challenge and realized that I've seen your name before on my friend Amanda's blog (I know Amanda from freshman year of college). I have this book on my shelf but haven't read it yet. Yikes--hopefully the next book will be better for you. Have you read any Fannie Flagg? She's one of my favorite southern authors.

I nevah read Gap Creek. It was hot during the Oprah thing and all checked out then I forgot about it.

Sorry, it wasn't your best experience, but you couriousity has been filled. I remember one woman in particular who loved the book so I gave her another Appalachian book, Cold Mountain. Didn't like it, so I gave her Tall Woman by Wilma Dykeman and she was back in reading heaven.

OK, I still need to call you for some blog tech support, and also, how does this Maggie woman know when we read our books? She's commented on mine, too! She can't read all our blogs everyday?! And if she comments, does that mean we're entered for the pecans? I'm really nuts for those nuts. But Damian thinks I'm psycho and told me he'd buy me a tin of pecans if I'd just let this thing rest. Let me know, if you know, Sarah
