Bubbles

We went to the park for a picnic for our June family birthday party. Grandma D. brought a blow up pool and some homemade bubble solution. They made huge bubbles out of various objects like a hula hoop, string, a plastic bottle, a strainer, straws and other such stuff. The kids had a great time making giant bubbles. It was a loads of fun!
We also played on the playground, the boys played catch, and we played a fun game called Sheepherder's Golf. The weather was perfect and it was a great day to be out.

Ward Campout

Last weekend was our ward campout up at Bennion Creek. We had a blast!!! It was so nice to get away and just enjoy each others' comany and not have to worry about interruptions. About 5 minutes after getting there, S was soaking wet from head to toe even though we warned him NOT to get wet. I guess it was expected. Then he laid down on by the barbeque pit to dry off. Luckily we had extra clothes. But, by the time we left which wasn't even a whole 24 hours later he had managed to get all of his clothes wet, and we had 3 outfits. Oh, well.

The girls had fun singing and entertaining. Here is their new song:

Don't make me snap my fingers in a Z formation,
Head rotation,
Is that too much information.
Everyone got a good laugh out of them and they enjoyed being the center of attention.
We had good food to eat, took walks, roasted marshmellows for smores, went fishing, got wet, talked, laughed, and had a great time!!!

Glamorous!!

My sister is going to beauty school and asked if she could take the girls and give them manicures and pedicures. Oh yeah, and by the way, could she also dye their hair pink?!

The girls had a great time and came home with huge smiles. Their hair was PINK! I wish I would have gotten a picture of it right away because now some of the color has faded. But, it still looks darling!

They love having their pink hair and think they are so glamorous. I did however get several dirty looks at church. Like I was some horrible mother for letting my girls have pink hair. Okay first of all, it will wash out in like a week or two. It's summer. And it's fun. So, does that make me a fun mom or a horrible-I-can't-believe-she-let-her-girls-do-that mom? Hopefully, a fun one!!

The Bridge

I love this story! I used it in my talk I gave during Sacrament last week, it's called "The Bridge".

There was once a big turntable bridge which spanned a large river. During most of the day the bridge sat with it’s length running up and down the river paralleled with the banks, allowing ships to pass through freely on both sides of the bridge. But at certain times each day, a train would come along and the bridge would be turned sideways across the river allowing a train to cross it.

A switchman sat in a small shack on one side of the river where he operated the controls to turn the bridge and lock it into place as the train crossed. One evening as the switchman was waiting for the last train of the day to come, he looked off into the distance through the dimming twilight, and caught sight of the trains lights. He stepped to the control and waited until the train was within a prescribed distance when he was to turn the bridge. He turned the bridge into position for the train to cross, and moved the lever to lock the bridge into position. But, to his horror, he found the locking control didn’t work. If the bridge was not securely in position it would wobble back and forth at the ends when the train came onto it, causing the train to jump the track and go crashing into the river. This would be a passenger train with many people aboard.

He left the bridge turned across the river, and hurried across the bridge to the other side of the river where there was a lever which he could hold to operate the lock manually. He would have to hold the lever back firmly as the train crossed. He could hear the rumble of the train now, and he took hold of the lever and leaned backward to apply his weight to it, locking the bridge. He kept applying the pressure to keep the mechanism locked. Many lives depended on this man’s strength.

When coming across the bridge form the direction of his control shack, he heard a sound that made his blood run cold. "Daddy, where are you?" His four year old son was crossing the bridge to look for him. His first impulse was to cry out to the child, "Run! Run!" But the train was too close, the tiny legs would never make it across the bridge in time. The man almost left his lever to run and snatch up his son and carry him home to safety. But he realized that he could not get back to the lever. Either the people on the train or his little son must die.

He took a moment to make his decision. The train sped safely and swiftly on its way, and no one aboard there was even aware of the tin y broken body thrown mercilessly into the river by the on-rushing train. Nor were they aware of the pitiful figure of a sobbing man, still clinging tightly to the locking lever long after the train had passed. They didn’t see him walking home more slowly than he had ever walked to tell his wife how he had sacrificed their son.

Now if you can comprehend the emotions which went through this man’s hear, you can begin to understand the feelings of our Father in Heaven when he sacrificed His Son to bridge the gap between us and eternal life. Can there be any wonder that He caused the earth to tremble and the skies to darken when His Son died? How does He feel when we speed along through life without giving a thought to what was done for us through Jesus?

When was the last time you thanked Him for the sacrifice of His Son?

A Late Father's Day

I realized that I never posted about father's day, so here we go, just a little late. We had a very nice, relaxing father's day. We of course went to church, where I had to speak. I think it went pretty well. I always get so nervous, but I had several people tell me I did a good job, so I guess it must not have been too horrible.

When DH came home, we sent him on a scavenger hunt to find his presents. It was a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed following him around. I feel so blessed to have DH as a husband and a father to my children. He's awesome.

Then, of course I can't talk about father's day, without talking about my own dad. How lucky I feel to have such a wonderful dad. He's been a hero of mine for a long time. My dad is patient, kind, understanding, spiritual, intelligent, has a good sense of humor, and my list could go on and on. He raised me in the gospel with good standards and for that I am forever in his debt. Not only was he an amazing father, but he is an amazing Papa. My kids adore him, as do all the other grandkids. S loves to play dinosaurs with him and has been one of his biggest fans since he was about one. We lived with my parents for about a year and S got attached to his Papa. Then, when we moved my dad thought that S would move on, but boy was he wrong. He talks about his Papa almost daily. He wants him to come to his birthday parties, or to play with him, or just to be with him. We are sad that he lives sooo far away. It's no surprise that S and all the other kids want to be with him, he is a wonderful person. I'd love to be with him all the time too!
So, sorry for the late post, but to those wonderful men in my life:
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

T.R.O.U.B.L.E.

S was playing happily in the bath the other day, while DH and I were in our bedroom talking. We heard the normal splashing and playing, and then we heard, "I am a genius!". Well, I had to see what that was all about. When I went in, I found him back in his clothes and completely wet. I asked him what he was doing, he then told me that I didn't have to wash his clothes I only had to dry them, because he washed them while he was in them. This was why we heard the genius comment. I just laughed and rolled my eyes. This kid is something else.

Spanish Fork River Park

We found this cute new park just up the canyon and have enjoyed going there for dinner. It's only about 10 minutes away so we can go up there for a quick dinner and some fun. On Monday, we got some KFC and picked up Grandma and headed out. We had a great time. We ate dinner and then went for a walk. Grandma taught the kids how to make necklaces and bracelets out of indian grass. They thought that was so cool.

The kids played on the playground for a while. T and M played some horseshoes with their dad. Then, we roasted marshmellows and made smores. It was a great night. T had a great time helping his dad start the fire. He is really starting to enjoy different things now. It's so fun to watch him grow and to get excited about new things.

Cheer Camp

M has been going to cheer camp all week. She has really enjoyed doing this and I think she might make a very cute cheerleader one day. Today was the last day of camp, and they had a little showcase so we could see what they learned. They did a few cheers and a dance. M did a great job! She was so cute out there. It reminded me of the time when I was a cheerleader. I loved it and have great memories of all the wonderful times we had together. I hope M will be able to have similar experiences with the acitivities that she is involved in.
Go M!!!

Tagged!

lei from My Many Colored Days and Chel from Happiness is Everything tagged me to do the 7 random things meme, so here we go:

1. I can remember birthdays and phone numbers very easily. I don't know why, I just know I can. I still remember some of my friends' numbers from high school. Although I have to admit that now most of my numbers are programmed into my cell phone so I don't have to memorize as many.

2. I love flip flops! I have about 20 pairs. A girl can never have too many right? I mean, I have to have some in every color and so they can match all my outfits. Not to mention all the different styles!!

3. I never learned to whistle. I always wanted to, but just can't do it.

4. Sweets are my downfall. I love chocolate, ice cream, pastries, cobbler, apple crisp, and the list goes on and on and on. I think probably the only treat I'm not particularly fond of is cake.

5. I would love to be on the Amazing Race. Every season DH and I talk about how we would like to give it a try. However, neither of us have even attempted to apply. Maybe we need to, it would be a blast!!

6. I have to have my toenails painted. I don't like going out without them painted. Toes aren't that cute as it is, so anything to do to make them a little cuter.

7. I have a passion for dance. I love to dance!! I danced from elementary through college. I wish I could find a studio that would teach adults. I'd be there in a heart beat.

Now, if you haven't played along and you'd like to, consider yourself tagged!!

Misc. Blogging

I love my bath robe. I wear it everyday. J always wants to wear mine. I finally gave in and let her put in on and then S needed to put DH's on. They looked too cute, I had to get a picture of them.

I love spending time with family. It is my favorite thing to do. We had a great time with all of DH's family here. Somehow S got stuck in this bucket. He thought it was hilarious and was running around the yard for a long time like this.

Our neighbor across the street has a huge backyard that she doesn't use. She said that we could use it for a garden, so 3 of us got together to go in on a garden together. The kids even helped get all the planting done. I can't wait for all the yummy food. Hopefully it produces a lot. There is nothing better than fresh veggies right from the garden.

S wanted a pirate party when his friends came over. We made pirate flags, went on a treasure hunt and searched for gold and silver (hershey kisses), and ate pirate cake. I think everyone had a pretty good time. The cake turned out just like the picture, but to me it looks a little feminine. Oh well, the kids enjoyed it at least.
How's that for random?!

Baby Shower

We had a baby shower for my SIL last Saturday. Her and her husband have been married for 6 years and this is their first. After a lot of "trying", doctors, and prayers, they were finally able to get pregnant. Strangely enough after all that, they were able to get pregnant all on their own. We are all so excited for them because we know how much they have wanted this. Their little Hannah Marie is expected to be here the end of August.

They live in Boise, ID and came down for the weekend. We had a lot of family come to celebrate with us. DH's sister from CO came with her family and so did his grandma, aunt, and cousins from Rexburg, ID. It was a great party! My MIL and SIL put a lot of work into the shower and it turned out wonderful. I really hope she enjoyed it. One of the decorations was a darling cake made out of diapers. It was decorated with headbands, socks that looked like flowers, toys, nail clippers, and was topped with a cute night light. We had a salad bar, which of course was delicious. The salad dressing was put into baby bottles, and the punch had rubber duckies floating in it.
We played the game where you can't cross your legs and if you catch someone else doing it you get to take away their clothespin necklace. I won that one!! Woo Hoo! We had a purse scavenger hunt. It was very interesting to see what everyone had in their purses. We had a relay where one person had to drink a bottle of juice, someone had to identify what was in the dirty diaper, and the last person had to eat a thing of baby food. M was one of the people who had to identify the dirty diaper. Her and her cousin figured out that it was candy, and decided to take a taste. It looked so disgusting and they thought they were so funny!!
She got a lot of really nice presents and I think the whole shower turned out to be a big success! I hope they enjoy their new little bundle and savor every moment!
