Kids and Their Language

Here I am blogging yet another post about my dear sweet S. He has been so good today. You can tell he's really trying to be a good boy and change his behavior. A little while after he got home from school I asked him to empty his backpack and show me his papers. He came into the room waving his homework back and forth that he forgot to turn in. As he was waving it, he was saying, "Damn, damn, damn, damn" in such an innocent little voice. It totally caught me off guard, because this is NOT language we use in our home. I asked him what he said and he shrugged his shoulders and said "Damn". I then told him that we don't use that kind of language and that is was an ugly word. He said okay and then turned to me again and asked, "Is that kind of like when I said hell?" I told him yes and that those were both words we don't use. It's amazing how quickly kids pick things up. When I called DH to tell him, he was cracking up on the phone. I can just see him coming home and asking S to tell him the whole story just so he can hear him say those words.

Funny story. I'm just waiting for that day.. .when Ryker says something like that. However much we want to protect our children and let them think it's a perfect world... they will hear it somewhere! The story was cute though and you handled it perfectly.

They pick up so much, it's incredible. The other day, my DH said something about "nude." I don't think it had to do with lack of clothing - but rather, a color of paint. Whatever.

Anyway, my 26-month old son looks right at him and says "Daddy, NUDE?!" As if he completely understood what we were talking about. Something tells me this is JUST the beginning...

Your son sounds like a cute kid!!

LOL! It's funny to see how kids learn new things!

The other day someone called my hubby and it was a wrong number so the person on the other end said S&%#! I could tell my hubby was bothered so I asked him what had happened. He told me what the person said by spelling it out loud. Now that "D" can spell he said "S & % # spells S&%#! We were mortified. No more spelling bad words. :O

I love hearing the stories about your kids! :D

When SlowMo was about 3 she said S O B...oh yeah she did! She heard another kid say it. We don't use language like that either. To her, "bad" words were "stupid" "dumb" and stuff like that. My hubby (who was my bf at the time) suggested that we tell her what the real bad words are, so she'd know for the future. LOL. We haven't had any problems since.

Funny! I'm glad he was able to learn he shouldn't be saying that.
